Data Science Summer Programs
DIYA Summer Programs provide an excellent opportunity for high school students to learn basic programming, data science mindset, AI & ML techniques to analyze real-world problems, frame the right questions to seek out answers from large data sets, and conduct research in wide range of problems that are impacting our society. The programs also provide an opportunity to interact and learn from experts in the field of data science from academia and industry.
Data Science Club
DIYA Research fosters data science literacy and a data-driven mindset through year-round school club activities. We partner with numerous schools, supporting students in establishing and running data science clubs. These clubs provide a comprehensive framework for high school students to develop data science competencies, equipping them for competitions and datathons in the field.
Princeton High School Enrichment
DIYA collaborates with high schools to deliver comprehensive Data Science programs, currently enriching Princeton High School’s Research Course Curriculum in NJ. Through co-teaching Python, Pandas, and Visualization, DIYA equips students with essential skills for data analysis, culminating in a capstone project.
Diversity and Inclusion
Embracing inclusivity, we collaborate with university-led initiatives, like ChiSE, to demystify Data Science for students from communities traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields

DIYA alumni apply their CS and Data Science skills to build and expand DIYA projects.

DIYA was definitely one of the best parts of my summer as I learned so much from this program. Python is my most favorite programming language, and I was able to gain a lot of Python Data Science and Machine Learning knowledge. Not only that, but it was really fun to do the capstone and research projects as they are really good ways to apply programming to the real world.
I've been interested in mathematical modeling and AI for a while now, but DIYA really helped me see the range of possible applications. Of course, in our project we focused on applying machine learning to mitigating issues with crime, but I was also able to learn about the other teams' work on using it to analyze electric vehicle optimization and the spread of coronavirus. I guess you could say DIYA showed me that data scientists could be change makers, not just backseat workers.
Running a machine learning analysis on recidivism highlighted just how many factors there were at play in the lives of these individuals, and DIYA especially emphasized how important it was to understand the complexity of these societal issues when proposing policy or advocating for change.
I am very happy! I can't wait to do this again next year, but with python! Thanks for teaching me this amazing data science!
This program has helped me a ton. I have learned so much about Data Science which will aid me in my quest of becoming a doctor. Thank you to all the mentors and DIYA teachers who helped everyone with their research projects by passing down amazing advice. I feel like there was some miscommunication on when it comes to feedback revisions. We had only the night of friday and morning of saturday to finish, so maybe next year if the final event was moved a day later, then feedback revisions can take up all of saturday to make sure recordings are better. Thank you!
I learned a lot from the DIYA research program. This was the first data science project that I worked on from start to finish, and I enjoyed learning about my topic and going through the entire process. I learned how to support findings with existing literature, how to find and compile data, how to analyze data, and how to build better machine learning models. I would have never researched water quality if I had not participated in DIYA, but I found my group's research topic extremely interesting. The weekly guest speaker series was also very informative and piqued my interest in a number of areas.
What students learned in the span of 8 weeks is quite impressive. Thank you to the mentors and teachers for the time and investment they have put in.
The DIYA research program was very useful and taught me a lot about machine learning, Python, and data science.I loved the DIYA Research experience. I was doing work I never imagined I would do in high school. I think a good idea would be to also do independent projects through the DIYA program.
Diya is definitely committed to translating research and teaching into practice by piloting solutions to real world challenges, and providing all the students with the knowledge needed to create sustainable impact for society which is very much needed especially with all the sustainability crisis going on around us. As a parent, I think that an internship is extremely valuable to any student as It is a small taste of the real world. It helps reinforce their knowledge of responsibility, focus, drive and ambition towards their future career what they wanted to become in future. The Ideas, innovation, discovery and rigorous independent thought will definitely serve as indispensable elements for all the students which are such great take aways from this amazing internship. More wishes to entire DIYA team. Looking forward to working with Diya for years to come with all the amazing mentors.
Before coming into this camp, I had some experience with python and no experience at all with data science. After working through this camp for only weeks, I have learned so much about the field of data science. My favorite part of the camp was the machine learning model construction because it fascinated me on how a machine is able to predict an outcome based on a few data points. Overall, the camp was super successful, and I am glad I decided to join.
My DIYA experience was very pleasant. This bootcamp gave me a thorough introduction to the field of data science and how it can be applied to aspects of our everyday lives. Although this camp is fast-paced, this camp took us through all the steps of creating a machine learning model that will be useful in our lives. Having experience programming (in any language) will definitely be helpful as this bootcamp builds upon basic programming knowledge in Python with data visualization and machine learning packages. Overall, my time here was well spent -- Thank you mentors!
I had a really good experience with DIYA - I learned a lot about machine learning from this camp and I believe that learning how to create a machine learning model is a useful skill to have as a lot of our future is data-science driven. The workload was a bit too much to handle near the beginning and I found the Kaggle courses to be largely unnecessary, but it evened out as we started to really work with the data, as the work was both interesting and manageable at that point. I didn't like the timing of the student mentor sessions however. I think it would have been better utilized if it started an hour later, as we would have had more time to work on the problems. I really enjoyed having the guest speakers talk to us, as their talks were very insightful into what data science is really used for. Overall, I thought that DIYA was a rewarding opportunity and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about applying next year.
Prior to DIYA, I had exposure to Python, but not to Pandas or other data science tools, and I learned a lot over the course of 2 weeks. I am already using Pandas in my own projects, and I feel much more confident in my ability to learn more about data science now. Although the pace was intense, I felt good about being pushed, since I was able to learn and achieve more.
