Why High School Pre-Med Students Should Embrace Data Science & AI

My daughter had always dreamed of becoming a doctor. As she entered high school, her focus sharpened: she wanted to gain admission to a pre-med focused undergraduate program. Naturally, she began thinking about what experiences could make her application stand out. She’d heard from peers and counselors that summer activities like shadowing physicians, volunteering at clinics, or working in research labs were the gold standard for aspiring pre-med students.

Dawn of Generative AI in Education

Recently, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its future impacts have been a primary focus in the news. Historically, the initial perception of new technologies have remained the same. Over the past few centuries, technologies such as railroad travel, telephones, commercial steam engines, and printing press, have been viewed with skepticism. The reason lies in the fundamental human resistance to change. Once humans have adapted to new technologies as status quo, the cycle repeats with the next disruptive technology.

Data Science Club

DIYA Research fosters data science literacy and a data-driven mindset through year-round school club activities. We partner with numerous schools, supporting students in establishing and running data science clubs. These clubs provide a comprehensive framework for high school students to develop data science competencies, equipping them for competitions and datathons in the field.

Princeton HS Partnership

DIYA collaborates with high schools to deliver comprehensive Data Science programs, currently enriching Princeton High School’s Research Course Curriculum in NJ. Through co-teaching Python, Pandas, and Visualization, DIYA equips students with essential skills for data analysis, culminating in a capstone project.

Diversity and Inclusion

Embracing inclusivity, we collaborate with university-led initiatives, like ChiSE, to demystify Data Science for students from communities traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields
